As a marketing consultant, the HawkShop has enlisted your team to develop a strategic plan to capitalize on this new opportunity. You have been tasked to create a 5 minute pitch that you will present to seniors professionals at the HawkShop
- Propose a Product:
- Identify a new product or a modification to a current product that the HawkShop could introduce to appeal to this growing demographic.
- Clearly describe the branding chosen for the product, as well as how this product will increase demand, be feasible and align with the bookstores current product mix.
- Develop a Pricing Strategy:
- Recommend a price (or price range) that the bookstore can set for the product, and any cost and margin considerations that are a part of your decision.
- Clearly describe the chosen pricing strategy, as well as how this price aligns with the current product mix and is appealing to music students specifically.
- Provide Supporting Insights:
- Highlight key trends in the music education or retail sector that support your recommendations.
- Discuss how your proposal aligns with the broader goals of the HawkShop and Wilfrid Laurier University.
Solution
Our proposed solution for the HawkShop is a personalized instrument case designed specifically for music students. This product enhances the standard instrument case by allowing students to customize their cases with unique designs, names, or Laurier-themed patterns, offering both functionality and personal expression. The branding for this product focuses on creativity, individuality, and school pride, aligning with the HawkShop's current mix of school-branded merchandise and practical student essentials. Personalization will increase demand by appealing to students who want to stand out while protecting their instruments in style. This solution is feasible with minimal modification to the existing supply chain, leveraging partnerships with local printing and manufacturing services. Additionally, it fits well with the HawkShop’s mission to support students with practical and engaging products that enhance their experience at Laurier.
For our pitch, we presented our idea as a short play, creatively demonstrating how a student’s journey at Laurier could be enriched with this personalized instrument case. We highlighted scenarios where the case becomes a conversation starter and symbol of pride, reinforcing its value and connection to the university community.
